Thank you to all who joined us to Celebrate & Commemorate a decade of resilience and transformation in Waterbury! The end of the Main Street reconstruction project also marked the culmination of a decade with significant road and infrastructure improvements in Waterbury, which also included the Route 100 and Roundabout projects.

The weekend also commemorated the 10 year anniversary of Tropical Storm Irene. Despite the devastation brought by this storm, the community rallied together in a strong show of resilience and the unbreakable spirit of Waterbury.

Celebrate & Commemorate highlighted all of Waterbury's recent transformations, as well as the dedicated community members who made this possible. The schedule of events is below.

Thursday, august 26

4:00 pm - 7:00 pm: Art activity from MakerSphere on Facing the Pandemic - Alone & Together at the Waterbury Farmers Market

6:00 pm - 8:30 pm: Concert in the Park from the WDEV Radio Rangers

7:00 pm: Moment of silence for Tropical Storm Irene

 

Friday, august 27

5:00 pm: Speeches to celebrate the completion of Main Street reconstruction

5:30 pm: Ribbon cutting across Main Street

5:45 pm: Unveiling of the Phoenix Rising public art project

4:00 pm - 7:00 pm: Art activity from MakerSphere on Facing the Pandemic - Alone & Together in the Stowe Street Alley

Open until 7:00 pm: After Irene Floodgates Art Project Revisited at Axel's Gallery

Ongoing: Live music from The Barn Band, downtown shops and restaurants open

 

Saturday, august 28

9:00 am: Tour of the Waterbury State Office Complex. Meet at the main entrance in the back along State Drive.

10:00 am: Premiere of The 2011 Flood: Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of Tropical Storm Irene, a film by the Waterbury Historical Society. The film will be screened in the Steele Community Room at the Municipal Complex and run on a loop after.

10:00 am - 1:00 pm: Waterbury Historical Society Museum at the Municipal Complex open 

11:00 am: Tour of the Rusty Parker Memorial Park area led by the Waterbury Historical Society. Meet at the Gazebo.

1:00 pm: Tour of the Waterbury State Office Complex. Meet at the main entrance in the back along State Drive.

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Art activity from MakerSphere on Facing the Pandemic - Alone & Together in the Stowe Street Alley

2:30 pm: Tour of the Stowe Street area led by the Waterbury Historical Society. Meet at the new Phoenix Rising public art installation.
